A typical code compliant assembly requires:

  • Short-lived solutions
  • Added backing materials
  • Tons of time spent installing

...that's a whole lot of dollars.

We decided that the industry could do better.

So we created a line of products designed to speed up the whole process, reduce overhead, and achieve the same or better fire rating compared to the industry standard.

Simpler, Faster, Better

Fire and sound rated drywall accessories install quickly, stand the test of time, and are practically foolproof. They combine the craftsmanship of Trim-Tex's tried-and-true vinyl drywall corner beads, which they've been perfecting over the last several years, and cutting-edge firestopping and soundproofing technology. Each of the fire rated drywall accessories comes equipped with an unassuming strip of intumescent tape that, when exposed to heat, expand to 30 times its size, slamming the brakes on the spread of fire, smoke and sound.

Vinyl Polymer

Built to Last

Unlike traditional wet-applied firestopping, which may shrink and crack over time, these products are designed to remain permanently flexible and provide a resilient seal that is mold-resistant and rust-proof for the entire lifetime of your wall assembly.

More Efficient

Save on installation time and labor costs by eliminating the need for fire sealants and fire spray at the head of wall.

Easy to Inspect

Brightly colored vinyl makes it easy for inspectors to identify the accessory as being rated for fire or sound, and since they install fully cured, they can be inspected the same day they're applied.

Frequently Asked Questions

There's a lot to unpack about these cutting-edge code compliance solutions. Let's begin with the basics, with some of the questions we hear all the time.

Where do I install these drywall accessories?

  • Bottom-wall and vertical joints in concrete assemblies (usually residential)
  • Head-of-wall details that require less than 1/4" movement
  • Installing post-drywall

  • Head-of-wall joints on pan/fluted deck or concrete assemblies, including uneven substrates
  • Buildings that require more (3/4”) movement
  • Installing post-drywall, or by applying to the drywall before hanging it

  • Head-of-wall joints on pan/fluted deck assemblies (usually commercial), but can also be applied to concrete
  • Buildings that require a lot (1” or 1.5”) of movement
  • Installing pre-drywall, more quickly than other options

  • Soundproofing (but not firestopping) head-of-wall joints on pan/fluted deck assemblies, but can also be applied to concrete
  • Buildings that require a lot (1” or 1.5”) of movement
  • Installing pre-drywall, more quickly than other options

  • Control joints, in lieu of fire rated backing materials

Why are fire rated solutions for wall joints so important?

Beyond keeping the inspectors happy, there are good reasons to place importance on keeping even the most minor of wall gaps compliant with building codes. If you’re in a 20’x20’x20’ room with only a pencil-sized gap in the wall, and there’s a fire in the next room over, it only takes 3 minutes and 40 seconds to fill the room with smoke to where you can’t see your hands in front of your face

To ensure that these advanced firestopping solutions will effectively prevent the passage of smoke and fire, they have been extensively tested and listed by the authority in firestopping code, UL Standards. The testing includes opening the vinyl beads to their maximum allowable joint distance and placing them in a 1,800-degree oven, in addition to many other rigorous forms of assessments. Firestopping solutions for wall joints matter, and the approval of UL Standards for this line of fire rated drywall accessories allows customers to rest assured they have installed the best possible protection against the spread of fire.

How do these solutions stand up to sound?

Soundproofing was a huge consideration when these products were being designed. Aside from the Fire Rated 093V Expansion bead, which only applies to control joints, all the fire rated drywall accessories you see here provide the same — or better — STC sound ratings as acoustical caulk. Each of these products have been sound tested according to ASTM E90.

  • Installed on standard studs, Fire Bead and Hotrod XL provide a sound rating of 50 STC, the same standard as acoustical caulk
  • On the same studs, Sound Gasket and Fire Gasket both provide a sound rating of 51 STC, standing as the most advanced soundproofing solutions on the market
  • On a wall installed with resilient channel, Hotrod XL provides an STC rating of 55
